Our First Doorway
We found these beautiful paneled doors at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in New Brighton. We installed the first one for a bedroom today. We matched stain to it – Red Chestnut.
Dormer Ceiling Vapor Barrier
The dormer’s ceiling had already been insulated with polystyrene so I installed 4 mil plastic for a vapor barrier. This is our sitting area for rest times from work.
Second Floor Interior Walls Done
We have all the second floor walls completed. We did have some ‘variations’. Luckily we installed our wall with screws, so that when we decided to move a bathroom wall, it was easy. New floor plans coming!
Steven installed our electrical sub panel.
Subfloors laid with 2x4s under all seams
To strengthen the subfloors and to prevent squeaking, we installed 2x4s under all the subfloor seams. Ready for flooring in the future.
Goodbye Chimney on Second Floor
We had planned to keep the chimney and leave it exposed for an old world look. It posed space problems so we decided to remove it. After we had removed the bricks to the level of the ceiling, it started to lean and was very unstable. The mortar between the bricks was soft and the bricks came off easily. We took it to the floor and then threw the bricks out the bedroom window to the ground below. I tripped on the tarp in this process and landed on my knee and shoulder. It hurt so much I thought I might have broken something so off to Urgent Care! X-rays showed now break thankfully.
