Heat Wave and an Air Conditioner

The house had been cool and comfortable until this heat wave. Steven suggested we install the air conditioner that my son had purchased when he was in medical school. He had then given it to my daughter to use who later passed it to us.

I found the perfect window close to an outlet. It made it possible to work when the outside temperature was in the 90s.

Bath Ceiling Joists

The main floor has 9′ ceilings. We are leaving all the height except for the bathroom. Yesterday and today I installed 2 x 4s for an eight foot ceiling. The lowered ceiling will allow Steven to install the plumbing above the ceiling.

I had to redo two joists because the 2 x 4s were warped and I didn’t want the sheet rock marred. Steven worked in the basement on plumbing and electrical.

Shower Base Cutting

The shower base was 5′. We cut the left side seat off so it would into the bump out.

After cutting the base, the next step was to cut a hole in the floor for the drain. This took a bit of adjusting and cutting.

We also had to cut more subfloor in the basement.

Replacing Wood Strips in Kitchen

The kitchen floor was missing several rows of wood strips. We ran the strip perpendicular to the previous floor. Luckily we had enough strips that matched. We didn’t have to go all the way to the south wall because kitchen cabinets will cover the area. We still have strips to install by the north wall of the kitchen where a cabinet and the brick chimney had been.
