North Window Ready for Trim
Day 20 Windows, windows, windows
The north reconstructed windows have taken many hours to repair, gluing, stripping paint, removing old glazing, replacing glass, applying new glazing, painting, cleaning windows, and then reconstructing.
Steven had purchased an oval window at a garage sale. Originally $1000, he got it for $75. We finally found a place for it. On the back, at the top of the stairs.
Painting goes on and on
Day 18-19 New Boiler Beautiful Flowers
Day 18
Work done that will show up next week. The exterior will be finished next week.
We had gotten an estimate from a heating company for a new boiler – $8500! Got an estimate for lining and extending the chimney through the roof (to keep the old boiler) – $3000.
Today our carpenters found us a new Slant Fin (top of line boilers) for $400 and Brian is even going to go to St. Paul to pick it up for us! The Universe is taking care of us!

Day 17 Shakes on north wall, most of front roof
Today we went to Bauer Bros – a huge warehouse of old and older things. Endless radiators. Endless everything! We found a window for the kitchen – the last window we needed – and a possible replacement boiler. The shakes are finished on the north side and the front roof is almost finished. I want to see siding on the front!
Color on this picture is really off. I need to take a picture earlier in the day!
Day 16 Windows installed, front fascia, siding on back wall
Day 16
We took much of the day off from Rose Cottage but the crew was there early to get work done ahead of the rain. All windows except for one are installed and have window membrane. The front fascia is on so tomorrow they can work on finishing the roof. Siding was installed on part of the back wall. The second floor was cleaned up. Three rows of shakes were installed but incorrectly. Not good. Steven explained to two of them how to do it but the third person installed them! Steven worked on getting the inside kitchen wall ready for a window. I worked on removing paint from the front dormer window on the second floor and then I painted it to match the other bronze windows.
