Disappearing Grapes
Disappearing Grapes plates on a plate hanger was hung between the cabinet and the long vertical window. A long picture on the adjoining wall and a rosette above the window.
New-Old Kitchen Storage
I wanted an open shelf storage unit for dishes above the dishwasher. We had 4 old shutters. I had already painted one side of two of them. At first I was planning to use the shutters for the sides and wood for the shelves, then I saw an idea using the shutters for shelves to stand plates upright. We went to the ReStore and I found 3 lovely pieces of wood. . I put in shelf supports and stained the wood Spring Oak. Cup holders hang from the shutter.
I still had two more shutters which I used to create a shelf unit beside the desk. The shelf brackets were found in our ‘stash’.I spray painted them bronze to give an older look. Five vintage knobs (again from our ‘stash’) finished the look.
There was a deep space between the refrigerator and the wall. We took two louvered bi-fold doors which we separated for the shelf sides. Steven found two hollow closet bi-fold doors which he cut up for the shelves. We ‘hung’ the shelves on the brass picture molding hooks which I had purchased for the living room.
Old Pie Safe Restoring
Steven’s mother gave him this old pie safe many years ago. I found it in our crawl space and thought it would look great on the right side of the kitchen sink window. Steven agreed so I did a lot of scrapping.
Covering radiator pipes in the kitchen
When we had the heating work done, to install the radiator in the south bedroom, we either had to pull up subfloor and clear insulation or have the pipes installed under the kitchen ceiling along the east wall. Steven was hesitant to have the mess that would be created clear the insulation so the pipes were installed under the ceiling. In hind sight we wishes we had done the either as we now had to solve how to conceal the pipes.
Many options were discussed. I installed a wallpaper border on the opposite wall as an option to install also on the cover of the pipes. Steven wasn’t sold on the light color so I painted it the same color as the walls.
Steven went ahead on framed, drywalled, and mudded over the pipes. and I painted the under part the wall color.
Kitchen cabinets and granite
Steven connected the stove to gas and it works! We were then able to call my daughter and her husband to come and help us install the last piece of granite over the cabinet on the right side of the stove. What is left is shelving above the dishwasher for dishes and glasses and covering up the radiator pipes above the sink. We decided to use a wallpaper border over the coverup and also install it around the room to give cohesion. I installed the wallpaper on the east wall.
Kitchen Progress
The kitchen is coming together. The dishwasher is installed. We hired someone to bring the refrigerator, stove and microwave that had been in our house to Rose Cottage. We discovered that mice had gotten into the stove insulation and into the microwave. They had eaten through 4 wires in the microwave. We cleaned up the refrigerator and stove only to discover that the refrigerator now longer worked! We can’t check out the stove until the gas line is hooked up.
The sink is completely installed with a new faucet purchased from Builder Supplies auction.
Kitchen Sink Installation
The kitchen sink came with the granite and cabinets. We had to clean the old silicone. This is a picture of the re-siliconed and being held in place while it dries.
Kitchen Floor
We have cabinets in place and were able to tung oil the kitchen floor. This is after one coat that is still wet. It will need two at least two more coats and will not be shiny when dry.
Granite in place
Steven put the dishwasher in place with a wall at the end to support the granite.
