The south bedroom only took two days. We had enough but barely.
Bedrooms
Flooring Sorted by Size
I opened all the boxes and sorted all the flooring by size. These boards are much shorter than the others. We are a bit worried that there might not be enough. I measured and counted and it seems we will be okay.
Trim in North Bedroom
While Steven was working on the electrical, I painted and installed baseboard trim in the north bedroom. We are using corner pieces to give a more vintage look. The great thing is there is no mitering. The baseboard trim was trim we found that someone was giving away. We are using this room to store furniture for the airbnb.
Electrical in Kitchen Before South Bedroom Flooring
We had one more bedroom in which to install flooring but first Steven needed to work on the electrical for the kitchen. He had to have access under the subfloor to string wire.
Middle Room Flooring
We have installed the hickory flooring in the middle room. It is a lighter color and went in much easier than the north bedroom. The alcove is original to the house. That was the height of the second floor until we raised the roof.
Refinished Dresser
The painted dresser is stripped, stained and finished. The drawers have quarter sawn wood and I am very happy with it.
North Bedroom Flooring Finished
The north bedroom flooring is installed and we are very happy with it. We had approximately 2 boxes of flooring left over which we hope to use in the hallway.
Slow Going on Flooring
Steven decided there was a way to raise the radiator pipes so he removed the radiator again and installed flooring. It all had to be hand nailed and holes cut out for the radiator pipes but turned out good.
While Steven was working on this corner, I was stripping the body of the dresser. It did not go well and there is still much to do.
Hardwood Flooring Down In ‘Alcove” for the Bed
Had problems with the air nailer but once Steven figured it out the nailing went smoothly. All the boards are not the same width; so we had problems with extra spacing which we will fill later. The boards are nailed up to in front of the door.
Now what to do with the area under the radiator.
Vintage Dresser Becoming New Again
We picked up an old dresser that had been painted. Thankfully the mirror was not painted. Unfortunately, the owner had removed the ornate drawer pulls. I have stripped the drawers to reveal beautiful oak wood and a lovely gold metal key hole surround.
