We have been blessed with gifts and finds along the way. This time it was a wicker rocking chair and two cushions for another rocker.
Porches
North Landing Spindles
Leftover spindles from the South Landing were used for the safety feature for the north landing.
Solar Lights added to Open Porch
North Deck and Stairway
Steven cut the hole in the decking for the posts to fit through. The decking was rescued when a neighbor replaced his decking. The back side was used and sanded.
More Trim around North Windows
I added trim between the windows to give a more finished look.
Kitchen Porch Railing
We had purchased metal spindles from clearance and used them on the kitchen porch railing. All wood is sealed with Australian
Last Detail on Roofing
Steven finished edges and other details on the roof. Because we were both getting hip replacements this summer, we hired someone to climb on the roof and install the last roof edges and trim.
Removing the previous cement steps
We changed the position of the door to the kitchen porch and then needed to remove the cement steps. Steven rented a jack hammer but even then it was a huge job and not finished in one day. We took the large pieces and made a perimeter in the back of the house.
January, February and March
The first three months were spent away from Rose Cottage. We had medical issues and replaced the carpet in our great room with laminate flooring. Then my son came to visit.
In April Steven installed mood lighting in the kitchen porch.
Finishing Kitchen Porch
We sheet rocked the walls and installed the headboard that had been removed from the porch when we demoed it. It was installed as wainscoting. We left an area at the far end showing the shiplap that had been under the siding. I sanded and stained. The wainscoting was sealed with amber shellac.
