Back to Rose Cottage

After taking the winter off, we are back to the rehab. I worked on cleaning up the interior of all the junk left from last summer. We purchased the 2″ insulation for the second floor walls. We gave the kitchen stove away for salvage so we’d have more room to work in the kitchen. We’ve decided to wait to work on the porches until we had the interior done.

We’ve planted flowers and the Wieglia is blooming profusely.

We had a lot of rain and the sump pump went out. We purchased a new one and Steven installed it. It is also now pumping to the outside instead of into the laundry tub.

The second floor was really warm yesterday so I took three mini-blinds that we had and covered the south windows. I showed Steven how they looked from the outside and he said, “It looks like someone lives here now!”

Final Inspection

We had the building inspection today. Everything is approved. There are still a few details for the crew to complete but today they removed all the scaffolding. We dug up three bushes on the south side of the house because they will be in the way for the gas line installation. The Bridal Wreath was large and became about 6 different bushes. I planted them along the east (back) lot line for privacy.img_2694-1

Bay Window Shed Roof Removed

The bay window walls stick out above the shed roof. We decided to take off the shed roof on the 12′ bay window section. Steven will install a temporary roof for the winter while we take time to decide what style roof to reinstall in the spring. We want to let more light into the dining room and have the bay window itself more visible.

Last Details

The carpenters are adding last trims, painting touch-ups and added a LVL (microbeam) between the first and second floors to allow installation of a long narrow window above the south kitchen cabinets and to replace the window we took out shown in the second picture with black plastic covering the opening.
