We had planned to create wood trim around the oval window but began to think of alternatives. We decided that I would fill in the sheetrock gap around the window with mud and then paint to match the walls.

Replacing the Stair Railing
When we added the full second story, the stairway was changed and the handrail was no longer long enough. The handrails at local lumber stores were not wide enough. A lumber yard in Minneapolis had the perfect handrail. Steven worked with it and our original spindles.
Stairway Railing Removal
The stairway railing had to be removed to incorporate a longer handrail. We will reuse the spindles but purchased a new handrail.
Laundry room
Steven’s mother gave us a stacked washer dryer. It was a struggle to install it in our small space and connect it to the external vent.
Hallway Picture Rail and Paintings
Leftover picture rail was installed in the stairway and hallway. In the stairway we hung our own paintings,

Bedroom Door
Steven installed the door to the first floor bedroom. It is original to the house; several layers of paint have been removed and restained. Steven found a lovely door knob and plate for the outside. We only had one so another style was installed on the inside. We were then able to finish the hallway baseboard trim and I painted the bedroom hallway. After the dining and living room baseboards are installed, we will use what is remaining for the bedroom.
Repainting the Hallway
After Steven finished with drywall plastering and sanding, I needed to repaint the hallway walls. It was the color of the ceilings. I used the wrong paint by mistake and Steven suggested that instead of repainting the entire wall i use a sponge. I used two different colors and am very happy with the result. It goes with the wallpaper nicely and creates another interesting feature to the house.
Help from Friends
A friend came over to help us paint the living room ceiling. We had planned to put faux tin ceiling wallpaper on the ceiling but decided that would be too hard on our bodies. We chose a dark rose color.
When Cheryl arrived to help us paint, another friend stopped by and gave her a housewarming gift for us. it was a lovely floral pillow – shown on the right side of the sofa.
Once the ceiling was painted Steven was able to install the ceiling medallion and the ceiling fan.
I also installed a curtain on the north porch door in the hallway (I think it was the front door originally).
Second floor landing railing
We found a railing at the Restore. It was a golde oak color. I sanded and steel wooled and then stained. I will darken it even more with a stain and polyurethane mixture. When I sanded I rounded all the sharp edges to give an older look.
