The unforeseeable

Shower stall on Slanted subfloor

We put 1/4″ plywood on the 1st floor bathroom floor and were about to install 1/2″ cement board. I suggested we bring in the shower base to check it all out and we discovered that the floor was not level. It took a few days for us to decide how to deal with this. We rearranged the bathroom completely. Steven will cut the stall, removing the left seat and to installed into our bump out at the other end of the bathroom, moving the sink cabinet and toilet to where the shower had been planned.

To correct the slant we will prime the plywood and pour leveling compound and then stop with 1/4″ cement board for ceramic tile installation.

Warm Up Leads to Work Renewal

We had approval last winter of the electrical and insulation. We left Rose Cottage after finishing most of the drywall on the second floor. We couldn’t put sheet rock in the bathrooms until the plumbing inspection. Steven purchased an online course on installation of waste pipe that we both watched but I retained only part. We have a licensed plumber to oversee Steven’s work. Steven thought it would only take him a week but there are always unforeseen problems.

Work to Keep Us Warm

We finished the ceiling dry wall in the bedrooms. It is getting cold outside, so to keep us warmer we decided to insulate the attic to R60 over the bedrooms. We used 10″ R30 4′ batts. Over the south bedroom, Steven had to lay on his back to install!  It took one full day to do. We used the loose insulation we had saved from the gutting for that area and to insulate the eaves. We still have ceiling dry wall to install in the hall and over the stairway. The bathrooms have to wait for the plumbing.
