Steven trimmed back the decking because it was water damaged and replaced boards that were too damaged. We used decking that we had removed from the kitchen porch for new edging. I then stripped , sanded and oiled the decking.

Stained Glass Rose for a hole in the storm
Early on a hole was punctured in the dining room storm. A hole and radiating cracks. It is a large piece of old glass that we didn’t want to replace so Steven took the glass pieces apart and copper foiled them and created a red rose for the hole. He then painted on green leaves along the cracks. Meanwhile I repaired the window glazing on the exterior windows and painted the inside of the big window.
Warm weather for painting
A week of warm weather allowed me to do exterior work. We had removed a kitchen window in the south wall and had put a temporary piece of siding. Steven installed the stove vent in the space and then I used cedar siding to fill the space. Not perfect but a better solution. I put a window sill on the horizontal window and trimmed the vertical window.
The living room storms in the north porch were painted a baby blue that I really didn’t like. I removed the storms and painted the outside of the living room windows and painted both sides of the storms. I then painted the exterior window trim a rose to match the other exterior windows. Cleaning the windows and reinstalling the storm gave me satisfaction.
Kitchen Window Trim
When Steven had installed the vertical kitchen window, we didn’t take time to install exterior trim. It didn’t look very nice so we took time to complete it. I marked where to cut the siding and Steven cut it away. I did end up trimming more at the top to allow for the extra drip wood edge. The wall looks so much better. I plan to do the same treatment for the upper horizontal window in the future.
Second trip to ReStore
On the trip back to pick up the two chairs, we found more trim but also found a railing for the second floor landing, we also purchased a very old heavy iron door. It would be used for a trellis in front of the removed kitchen window. The railing will need to be darkened.
ReStore Finds
The ReStore had .been greatly enlarged. Because of the COVID virus we had stayed away. today we went looking for trim. we found that and much more. I wanted to find a small bookcase we could use in the living room.across the doorway from the China cabinet. I found 6 chairs for $4 each. They were old with needlepointed rose seat coverings. We found 2 white support pillars for $9 each – value $90 each. We found a bunch of trim. We couldn’t get two chairs in the car so need to return tomorrow.
