Early on a hole was punctured in the dining room storm. A hole and radiating cracks. It is a large piece of old glass that we didn’t want to replace so Steven took the glass pieces apart and copper foiled them and created a red rose for the hole. He then painted on green leaves along the cracks. Meanwhile I repaired the window glazing on the exterior windows and painted the inside of the big window.
China Cabinet between Dining Room and Living Room
This china cabinet was found along side of the road on our way to church. Steven cut it down to lower it. I stained the surface to darken it. We decided to build it in half way.
Help from Friends
A friend came over to help us paint the living room ceiling. We had planned to put faux tin ceiling wallpaper on the ceiling but decided that would be too hard on our bodies. We chose a dark rose color.
When Cheryl arrived to help us paint, another friend stopped by and gave her a housewarming gift for us. it was a lovely floral pillow – shown on the right side of the sofa.
Once the ceiling was painted Steven was able to install the ceiling medallion and the ceiling fan.
I also installed a curtain on the north porch door in the hallway (I think it was the front door originally).
Dining room table refurbish
Steven got a dining room table with claw feet at Goodwill for a dollar. I scraped off paint and rubbed it down with steel wool and denatured alcohol. I was amazed at the results! I will put a coat of shellack on it to further smooth out the finish. We have needlepoint chairs purchased at the ReStore.
Adding Curtains in second floor bedrooms
We had a stash of curtains waiting to be installed. Some from a previous house and some from the current house. Amazingly we have enough for the whole house. For now I have only installed curtains in the second floor bedrooms;
Warm weather for painting
A week of warm weather allowed me to do exterior work. We had removed a kitchen window in the south wall and had put a temporary piece of siding. Steven installed the stove vent in the space and then I used cedar siding to fill the space. Not perfect but a better solution. I put a window sill on the horizontal window and trimmed the vertical window.
The living room storms in the north porch were painted a baby blue that I really didn’t like. I removed the storms and painted the outside of the living room windows and painted both sides of the storms. I then painted the exterior window trim a rose to match the other exterior windows. Cleaning the windows and reinstalling the storm gave me satisfaction.

North porch cleanup
I wanted to paint the living room storms and windows so I did some cleanup and moved the worktable away from the windows. A new pathway was created closer to the windows.
The storms are standing and ready to be painted.

Free sofa
One day we decided to take a new route home and saw this sofa along the curb. We tried to get it into the car but it was too big. A man came out of the house and said he would deliver it for us. He also had a loveseat in the garage we could look at. We decided to take both. I didn’t like the fabric on the sofa so I looked at the upholstery fabric I had purchased from Goodwill and found a burgundy fabric that would work well on the sofa. The love seat cushions are well worn and will be recovered in the future.
